Guanella Pass Road Opens For Season May 24th, 4PM

As scheduled in the past, the county will open Guanella Pass Road in its entirety on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 4 PM.

It is our anticipation the Guanella Pass Road will close for the winter season on or about Monday, November 26, 2018.

Effective 2018, dispersed camping along Guanella Pass Road is now prohibited.

Camping is only allowed in formally designated areas by the US Forest Service.

For camping questions on the Georgetown/I-70 side of the pass, please call 303-567-4382.

For camping questions on the Grant/Highway 285 side of the pass, please call 303 275-5610

New regulations are in place to help protect the watershed.  Concentrated impacts in the corridor are causing safety concerns, damaging resources, and threatening municipal water sources.

  • Park in the designated (signed) pullouts along the Guanella Pass road or in the designated trailhead parking areas.
  • Camp in Forest Service developed campgrounds.

Clear Lake and Guanella Pass campgrounds are on the north side of Guanella Pass.  Burning Bear and Geneva Park campgrounds on the south side of Guanella Pass.

  • Dispersed camping is only allowed in designated camping sites along Forest Service Roads 118E and 119 (Geneva Ck road).

Designated camping sites are signed with “Parking” and “Tent” symbols.  Forest Service Roads 118E & 119 are the only locations you can disperse camp within the Guanella Pass corridor.

  • Campfires allowed in FS developed campgrounds or designated campsites along Forest Service Road 118E & 119.  Be sure to check for any fire bans before camping.
