About the Transfer Station
The Transfer Station accepts various sorts of materials and offers an extensive recycling program.  The transfer station handles household trash, construction debris, furniture, appliances and other materials for a fee.  The facility’s voluntary recycle center collects, at no charge, glass bottles, all sorts of plastics, cardboard, paper, various metals, motor oil, cooking oil, and antifreeze.  Plastic, glass and metal containers must be clean and free of residue.  Material that we don’t allow for recycling include food containers, styrofoam, oil/antifreeze containers, chemical containers, drinking glasses, dishes, window glass, waxed containers and non-numbered plastics.  For a small fee we also recycle electronics, household batteries and fluorescent light bulbs.  Please see the link at left for the full recycling brochure.

Chipper Program

The Clear Creek County Chipper Program allows homeowners to rent a 6” Vermeer Wood Chipper.  The chipper is available for $125/8 hours or $250/16 hours.  The chipper rental is available to all Clear Creek County citizens who are not required to perform defensible space on their property due to a building permit.  The minimum age to rent the chipper is 25.  All renters are required to watch a safety video prior to the rental, and must sign a release form.  There is a $250.00 damage deposit required, as well.  To schedule rental of the chipper, please call (303) 679-2482.  The chipper must be picked up and dropped off at the Clear Creek County Transfer Station located at 1531 Soda Creek Road, Idaho Springs, CO  80452.

Clear Creek County rented a 1/2 inch screen to process compost material that has been generated over several years.  The compost material is low in salts and high in organic matter making it an excellent soil amendment for reclamation of disturbed soils, gardening or planting trees.  The material is available for $10/cubic yard.  See the link below for the compost analytical results.

 Analysis Report

2014 Slash Program
The 2014 Slash Program ended successfully on September 30.  We collected 4800 cubic yards of tree material and had 1500 residents utilize this program.

2014 Household Hazardous Waste Program
234 County residents dropped off HHW in 2014.  We collected 935 gallons of Latex paint, 715 gallons of oil based paints and stains, 250 gallons of pesticides and 600 gallons of other HHW.  This was free for residents thanks to generous donations from various water sheds and local businesses.
