The Clear Creek County Site Development Department, in cooperation with the Road & Bridge Department, is responsible for the establishment and administration of the County road and bridge standards, which are found in the Roadway Design & Construction Manual.
These are standards for the design and construction of roads, bridges and driveways, and for the classification and management of improvements to the existing County road system. Our standards are in general conformance with the following nationally and locally accepted agencies and laws:
- Colorado Revised Statutes (CRS)
- Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT)
- American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO)
- Transportation Research Board (TRB)
- Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE)
- Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)
- Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association (CAPA)
These regulations and standards are modified and amended in our Roadway Design & Construction Manual as deemed appropriate by the County Engineer and Public Works Director to preserve the integrity of the County’s roads and maintain a standard of safety for the users of Clear Creek County’s road system, while recognizing the unique challenges associated with design, construction and maintenance in the sensitive yet harsh high alpine environment.
